Georgian Energy Minister discussed Khudoni HPP construction

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Georgia Kakha Kaladze met with representatives of the State Bank of India and "Trans Electric", the investing company of Khudoni HPP, on Wednesday. The parties discussed the details of the project.

According to Kaladze, State Bank of India is interested in joining funding of Khudoni HPP.

Being on a working visit in Georgia, the delegation examines the financial risks of the project, after which the State Bank of India will take a decision on allocating a credit for construction of the hydropower plant.

At the meeting with the Minister of Energy the guests from India asked Georgian government's position on implementation of the project. State Bank of Georgia is going to finance 70 percent of the construction costs of Khudoni HPP.

Project is implemented in Samegrelo - Zemo Svaneti region on Inguri River. Installed capacity of the plant is 702 MW. The project costs $1.125 billion.

Currently, the construction of the hydropower plants is suspended due to the negative assessment of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources of Georgia.
