Azerbaijan, Baku, April 8 / Trend, A. Akhundov /

Kazakhstan is currently thinking more about meeting its domestic gas demand, rather than its exports.

This was stated on Monday by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Sagintayev, when asked about the possibility of Kazakhstan's participation in the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline.

"Kazakhstan has no such volumes of gas, as Azerbaijan, Russia and Turkmenistan. Thus, I can not give a clear answer on the level of our participation. We now think more about how to meet our domestic needs. Our northern and central regions are not supplied with gas, and our task today is to supply gas to our country," Sagintayev said.

The Trans-Caspian pipeline is expected to be laid from the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea to the coast of Azerbaijan.

The length of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline will be about 300 kilometers.

Negotiations between Turkmenistan and the EU and other countries on the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline have been conducted since the late 90's of the last century.

The negotiation process was intensified after the European Union provided a mandate to start negotiations on the preparation of an agreement between the EU, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on the Trans-Caspian project in September 2011.
