Uzbekistan, Tashkent, April 9 / Trend D.Azizov /

Japan's Mitsubishi Corporation will supply the main equipment for the project on expansion of the Talimarjan thermal power plant (TPP) in Qashqadaryo province of Uzbekistan, a source close to the project told Trend on Tuesday.

As reported previously, Uzbekistan is planning to realise the project on expansion of the thermal power plant by construction of two steam-gas plants (SGP) at a cost of $1.28 billion, as well as to build the Talimardjan TPP - Sogdiana substation high-voltage power transmission line (PTL) at Talimarjan TPP with 500 KV tension at a cost of $166.76 million.

Implementation of these investment projects will increase the installed capacity of the plant to .1600 MW.

In March, Uzbekenrgo SJSC signed a contract worth $861.8 million with a consortium of Korean companies within the structure of Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Daewoo International for the construction of two steam-gas plants at Talimarjan thermal power plant (TPP).

Under the contract, the Korean consortium will construct two turnkey SGPs with a 450 MW capacity each. The first SGP block should be constructed during the next three years, the second just over three years..

Financing of the project is provided by assets of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to the sum of $350 million, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) - $300 million, the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan - $250 million, and Uzbekenergo's owns assets.

Construction of 500-kV Talimardjan TPP - Sogdiana substation PTL will be financed by a $110 million credit loan from the World Bank and own assets of Uzbekenergo.

Construction of the 500 kV Talimarjan TPP - Sogdiana substation PTL began in 2011 and is expected to be completed in 2013.

Commissioning of the two steam-gas plants in 2016 will increase electricity generation at TPP from 4.6 billion kWh to 10.4 billion kWh and the coefficient of efficiency of the station will increase to 58 per cent from the current 38 per cent.

Currently, the Uzbekistan power system includes 45 power plants with a total capacity of 12.4 megawatts, including 16 Uzbekenergo power stations with a total capacity of 12.04 megawatts.
The major share of electricity, up to 90 per cent, is produced by 10 thermal power plants with a total installed capacity of 10.6 megawatts.

In 2012, Uzbekistan increased production of electricity in comparison to 2011 by 0.2 per cent, up to 52.534 billion kWh.
