Uzbekenrgo State Joint-Stock Company announced a prequalification for the participants of the project of modernizing two hydropower plants in Tashkent Region - Farhad hydropower plant and hydropower plant-14 of Lower Bozsu cascade worth $165.7 million, the company said on Wednesday.

The concerned bidders are invited to submit their proposals for two lots: the implementation of contracts of modernizing Farhad hydropower plant and "Cascade of Lower Bozsu hydropower plant" (HPP 14) upon "turnkey" conditions.

"The contracts will be implemented through international competitive bidding," a statement said. "It is planned to send an invitation for participants to attend the international competitive bidding in May 2013."

It was previously reported that the modernization of the two power plants envisages the replacement of generators and turbines, as well as electrical equipment and communication system. The project implementation will increase the generating capacity of two power plants by 30 megawatts. The project will be implemented by late 2015.

The project is planned to be financed by a loan from the Islamic Development Bank to the amount of $ 100 million allocated to the government at the end of last year, Uzbekenergo's own funds and the state budget funds.

Currently, the Uzbek power system includes 45 power plants with total capacity of 12,400 megawatts, including 16 power stations of Uzbekenergo with a total capacity of 12,040 megawatts.

The major share of electricity, up to 90 percent, is generated by 10 thermal power plants with total installed capacity of 10.6 megawatts.

In 2012, Uzbekistan increased electricity generation by 0.2 percent, up to 52.534 billion kilowatt / hours compared to 2011.
