French company Schlumberger is holding a seminar on 'Information solutions to improve the efficiency of the oil industry' on April 24 in Ashgabat, the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Turkmenistan said on Wednesday.

According to the report, the event being held at the conference hall of the Scientific Research Institute of Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan is being attended by representatives of the oil and gas sector of the country, state corporations and heads of institutions.

The agenda includes priorities for the transition from the concept of integration of software products to the creation of software platforms.

As stated in the report, the event will particularly focus on issues such as the optimisation of exploration work through the SIS Exploration Sistem, basic functionality of the software platform and specialised techniques of the interpretation of Techlog well data.

It will also discuss new opportunities of the ECLIPSE stimulus and modelling of enhanced oil recovery, opportunities for hydrodynamics and the operational software package for geological and production analysis and control of production of reserves, as well as Schlumberger SIS technological solutions for drilling optimisation.

Earlier this year, the Turkmengeology state corporation signed a contract with Schlumberger Logelco Inc's division for drilling services, preparation of drilling fluids and strengthening the casing on three development wells at Turkmenistan's largest gas field Galkynysh.
The Galkynysh field is the second largest in the world for its reserves of fossil fuels, as reported by local media, referring to Gaffney, Cline & Associates (UK), with reserves totalling
26.2 trillion cubic meters.

Turkmenistan plans to launch this deposit in 2013, where capacities to produce 30 billion cubic meters of marketable gas will be installed.

High rates of drilling development wells and the construction of modern plants for desulphurisation of natural gas and the production of high quality commercial gas are to be seen under the first phase of the project for development on this unique gas bearing area.
