‘Ozenmunaigas’ challenged resolution on environmental legislation breach

Kazakhstan's oil and gas company 'Ozenmunaigas' appealed against the resolution of the Ecology Department on Mangistau province of the Environmental Regulation and Control Committee of the Ministry of Environment Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan on non-compliance by the environmental legislation of the country, the Press Service of the company reported on Friday.

According to the report, the Ecology Department on Mangistau province of the Environmental Regulation and Control Committee of the Ministry of Environment Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan conducted an inspection of JSC 'Ozenmunaigas' on compliance with the environmental legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

On the results of the inspection, the Ecology Department on Mangistau province drew up a report and the calculation of the economic impact from the environmental pollution in the total amount of 59.6 billion tenge (151.05 tenge = 1 dollar).

In turn, JSC 'Ozenmunaigas', considering the requirements of the Department of Environment on Mangistau province to be groundless, appealed to the Specialized Interdistrict Economic Court of Mangistau province with a bill of complaint on considering invalid the above-mentioned report and the calculation of economic damage.

On April 22, 2013, the Environmental Department of Mangistau province filed submitted an appeal to the court on implementation of their complaint by the seizure of the property and bank accounts of JSC 'Ozenmunaigas'. Upon review of the case, the court refused to satisfy the claim.
