Gas reserves at the Umid and Absheron fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea amount to 600 billion cubic meters, head of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) Rovnag Abdullayev told journalists on Wednesday.
According to him, Azerbaijan has many gas fields and prospective structures from which gas can be transported by the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline in the future. In particular, the recently explored Umid and Absheron fields are among them.
Referring to the development of the prospective Babak complex, Abdullayev noted that the work there depends on the presence of a floating drilling rig. In 2016 SOCAR will receive a new modern drilling rig at its disposal which will allow for drilling in water to depths of 1000 metres, he said.
