Uzbekenergo State Joint-Stock Company (SJSC) has completed the construction of the Talimarjan thermal power plant - Sogdiana substation (southern Uzbekistan) 500 kilovolt high-voltage power line, which is part of a project to expand the reach of the thermal power plant, a representative of the company told Trend on Monday.

The agency's interlocutor said that the construction of the 218 kilometer power line also includes the construction of a 500/220 kilowatt open distribution device at the plant. The total cost of the project is $ 166.8 million. At the moment, the construction of the network cost about $ 120 million and has been completed, the construction of network infrastructure should be completed by the end of August.

"The commissioning of the power lines for commercial operation is scheduled for September of this year," the representative said.

The project is being financed by a $110 million credit from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and Uzbekenergo's own funds.

As it was previously reported, in 2010, Uzbekistan was seeking to expand the Talimarjan thermal power plant at a cost of $1.28 billion and planned to build two steam-gas plants of a combined cycle of 450 megawatts each by 2017.

With the commissioning of two steam-gas plants, power generation at the thermal power plant will increase from 4.6 billion kilowatt/hour to 10.4 billion kilowatt/hours, the indicator of the station's coefficient of performance will increase to 58 percent from its current 38 percent.

Funding for the project will be implemented through $350 million in credit from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), $300 million in credit from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), $ 250 million in credit from the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan, and Uzbekenergo funds.
