Construction of Kazakhstan's first self-elevating floating drilling rig is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2015, a source at KazMunayTeniz JSC told Trend.

"The construction of a self-elevating floating drilling rig is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2015," the company representative said.

The rig is intended for drilling operations in the Caspian Sea and is capable of going down to depths of between five and 80 metres.

Last summer, Tenizz Burgylau LLP, a wholly owned subsidiary of KazMunayTeniz JSC and a consortium of Keppel Kazakhstan LLP and Ersai Caspian Contractor LLP signed a contract for the turnkey construction of Kazakhstan's first jack-up rig installation.

This project is being implemented by Teniz Burgylau with the support of the National Company KazMunaiGas. Construction work is being undertaken at the shipyards Keppel Kazakhstan LLP (Aktau) and Ersai Caspian Contractor LLP in the village of Karakiyan in Kuryk.
