The Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline project (TANAP) partners will select a contractor for the pipeline's construction after September 2013, Hurriyet newspaper reported on Thursday citing head of SOCAR Turkey Enerji, a Petkim Petrochemical Holding board member, Kenan Yavuz.
According to Yavuz, the choice of the gas pipeline's final route is almost complete. Regarding the company that will supply pipes for the project, currently some 28 proposals have been received from various companies, nine out of which are Turkish, Yavuz said.
"Some two million pipes will be used in the construction of the TANAP project. We intend to order them in the second half of 2014," the SOCAR Turkey Enerji head said.
The TANAP project envisages transporting gas from the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field to Europe through Turkey. The initial capacity of the pipeline is expected to reach 16 billion cubic meters per year. About six billion cubic meters of gas will be supplied to Turkey and the rest to Europe.
