Turkmenistan is ready to hold in 2014 an international meeting of experts on ensuring energy security, Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary (TDH) State News Service said on Wednesday with the reference to country's Foreign Ministry.

This material is confined to opening of 67th session of the UN General Assembly in New York in the coming days.

According to the statement, Turkmenistan proposes to UN member states to proceed to the creation of an international expert group to prepare a new, comprehensive document on the initiation of global cooperation in the energy sphere.
"In particular, Turkmenistan is ready to hold an international meeting of experts on this subject in 2014," the statement said, adding that in terms of sustainable development currently great importance is given to the issues of reliable and uninterrupted supply of energy resources to the world market.

"This is one of the essential components of the stability of the world economy, its sustainability and the protection from distortions and deformations. In this regard, the formation of a universal international legal mechanism aimed at ensuring energy security is a problem of global significance," the statement said.
The UN news centre earlier reported that delegates of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution at Turkmenistan's initiative on transit of energy resources.
Over 70 countries were the co-authors of the document.

Turkmenistan is one of the key players in the gas market in Caspian region and Central Asia. At this stage, users of Turkmen natural fuel are China, Iran and Russia. Turkmenistan holds the fourth place in the world for the reserves of natural gas and the country searches new markets in Europe and South Asia.
The official Ashgabat believes that under current conditions concerted actions of producing countries, transit countries and consumer countries, capable of optimizing economic development, including the creation of the infrastructure needed to transport energy, are necessary.
