Azerbaijan Railways CJSC is viewing the issue of purchasing some 300 new tank wagons for transportation of oil and oil related products, the CJSC Chairman Arif Askerov said.
In addition the issue of purchasing wagons for transporting dry goods, as well as equipment and spare parts needed for the overhaul and repair of freight cars is on the agenda.
The CJSC views the possibility of creating bases for the overhaul and repair of passenger cars at Baku Train Station.
"Earlier, 60 passenger carriages owned by CJSC, were sent for repair to the Ukraine. Some 46 have already been repaired and returned to the country. Meanwhile, six out of the 16 carriages sent to Voronezh, were brought to Azerbaijan. Today, these are used on routes such as Baku-Tbilisi, Baku-Moscow, Baku-Kharkov and Baku- Balakan, "Askerov said.
According to him, the results of CJSC production, financial and industrial activity during the first nine months of 2013 are satisfactory. Around 17 million tons of cargo and 1.9 million passengers were transported on the country's railways during the reported period.
