By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:

Some 17 prospective sites and structures were discovered at Block 23 in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, the RWE Dea AG Exploration Manager in Turkmenistan, Torsten Scholz said on Nov. 21 at the Oil and Gas international conference (held on Nov. 19-21).

"Some 17 prospective sites and prospective structures have been discovered at the block. The first 3D seismic exploration was held in the transition zone of Turkmenistan and seismic data processing was carried out," he said.

According to Scholz, the presence of several stratigraphic oil and gas complexes belonging to the deltaic sediments of the paleo-Amu Darya were discovered at a depth of 1500-2500 metres. Large deep-lying closed structures have been found in the sediments of Pontian layers and within the Miocene at a depth of 5000-6500 metres.

"Drilling at the first site (existence of multiple complexes) will be carried out from the shore in 2014-2015," the company's representative said.

Earlier it was reported that in July 2013, Ashgabat hosted a presentation of RWE Dea, which has been working at the Block 23 in the Turkmen section of the Caspian Sea since 2009. The initial stages of the works and the database, seismic surveys, seismic data processing and interpretation of seismic data were discussed at the presentation.

The company's representatives also said that the 3D seismic survey, which has been carried out in this sector of the Caspian Sea for the first time and covered about 400 square kilometres, was completed by the company in 2012. The license provides exploration for six years in line with the Production Sharing Agreement (PSA).

Resource estimates are not known yet. Upon discovery of hydrocarbon reserves a license will be issued for their commercial production for 25 years.

An exploratory well is planned to be drilled in accordance with the results of seismological exploration. In late October, the managers of the RWE said at a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov that Turkmenistan is becoming an important energy exporter. At that time the CEO of RWE AG, Peter Terium and Chairman of the Management Board of RWE Dea AG, Thomas Rappuhn visited Ashgabat.
