Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Nov. 27

By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:

Turkmenistan will take measures to increase electricity production almost two fold by 2016, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

The publication said that in the coming years it is planned to construct eight gas turbine power plants in the Akhal, Lebap and Mariy velayats (regions), reconstruct power plants in the cities of Seydi, Balkanabad and construct high-voltage power lines.

There are 12 large and three small gas turbine units (GTU) operating in the energy industry of Turkmenistan. A large GTU is designed for the production of 127 megawatts and a small - 42 megawatts of electricity. These plants totally produce more than 40 percent of the installed capacity of all generating power in Turkmenistan.

There are currently 10 power plants operating in Turkmenistan as well as 32 turbines, including 14 steam turbines, 15 gas turbines and three water turbines. Up to now a special place in the country was given to heat, condensing power units for various purposes, the newspaper said.

The article said that the plan for further development of the country's power system envisages construction of highly efficient HPPs and major energy sources based on gas turbine units (GTU), with gradual reduction in the number of inefficient energy sources.
"The application of gas turbine units as power equipment at HPP is economically justified, since to date, power plants operating on gas have the most attractive to the consumer specific construction costs and lower costs at the subsequent operation," the newspaper told.
