Azerbaijan provides over 80 percent of Georgia’s gas imports

Georgia imported 368,560 tons of natural gas in oil equivalent worth $76.06 million in Jan.-Feb. 2014, GruzStat, the National Statistical Service of Georgia said in its report.

Azerbaijan is the main supplier of this kind of fuel to the country with a specific weight of 82.9 percent of Georgia's total volume of imports in this category. In total Georgia imported $91.75 million worth of natural gas since early 2014, according to the report.

In an annual calculation, the volume of natural gas imported by Georgia from Azerbaijan increased by 19.56 percent, or 49,160 tons of oil equivalent.

By comparison Georgia imported 319,400 tons of gas from Azerbaijan in Jan.-Feb. 2013 which amounted to $63.62 million.

The specific weight of gas amounted to 67.2 percent of the total volume of imports from Azerbaijan to Georgia during the reporting period.

Georgia imported $113.19 million worth of products from Azerbaijan in January-February 2014. The volume of imports from Azerbaijan to Georgia increased 15.49 percent during the reporting period. By comparison, Georgia imported $98.01 million worth of products from Azerbaijan from Jan.-Feb. 2013.

Azerbaijan ranks second among the countries from which Georgia imports products. The specific weight of Azerbaijani imports in the total volume of imports to the country is 10 percent.
