By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:

Some 828.1 million cubic meters of gas was pumped into the underground gas storage facilities of Azerbaijan as of June 23, 2014, a source at the country's State Oil Company (SOCAR) told Trend.

Azerbaijan has two underground gas storage facilities, Kalmaz and Garadagh.

Garadagh storage facility accounted for 439.64 million cubic meters of the total volume of gas pumped into the underground gas storage facilities, while nearly 388.48 million cubic meters fell to the Kalmaz storage, according to the source.

Currently, the active gas volume in the country's underground gas storage facilities exceeds 2.2 billion cubic meters, some 1.19 billion cubic meters of which is stored in the Garadagh storage, while 1.02 billion cubic meters fell to Kalmaz.

The residual volume of gas in the underground gas storage facilities stood at nearly 1.38 billion cubic meters (746.43 million cubic meters in Garadagh and some 630.6 million cubic meters in Kalmaz), as a result of gas extraction from the storage facilities.

Azerbaijan's underground gas storage facilities are capable of storing over 3.5 billion cubic meters of gas.
