By Emil Ismayilov - Trend:

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) continues the search of sites to construct new gas stations in Azerbaijan's regions, a source at SOCAR told Trend on Jan.21.

The source said that SOCAR's plans regarding the construction of new gas stations remain in force.

"However, the main issue is the search of suitable sites and the work on this issue is underway," the source added.

Currently, 16 gas stations of SOCAR operate in Azerbaijan, said the source, adding that two of them are located in the country's north and the rest in Baku.

The source added that the site for construction of the new gas station has been determined in Ziya Bunyadov Avenue in Baku.

"The site for the new gas station has already been chosen and currently the issue related to transferring the facilities which are on the construction site is being resolved," said the source.

It is planned to construct and commission the gas station in 2015, according to the source.

SOCAR is the only producer of petroleum products in Azerbaijan. It owns two oil refineries, as well as gas stations in Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Romania and Switzerland.

In total, nearly 3.56 million metric tons of the main types of petroleum products were produced in Azerbaijan in Jan.-Sept. 2014, compared to over 3.82 million metric tons in the same period of 2013.

The production volume of the main types of petroleum products in Azerbaijan stood at 5.09 million metric tons as of 2013.
