US increases import of Azerbaijani petroleum products

The US imported 450,000 barrels of petroleum products from Azerbaijan in January-November 2014, compared to 366,000 barrels in the same period of 2013, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said Jan. 30.

The US imported a total of 77,000 barrels of Azerbaijani petroleum products in November 2014.

No Azerbaijani oil products were imported by the US in November 2013.

Naphtha accounts for the total volume of the imported products. It is used as raw material in the petrochemical industry.

The US imported 366,000 barrels of petroleum products from Azerbaijan in 2013, compared to 46,000 barrels in 2012.

The US resumed the import of petroleum products from Azerbaijan in 2012 after the long break that has been going on since 2009. Around 308,000 barrels of Azerbaijani petroleum products were delivered to the US in 2008.

Earlier, petroleum products were produced at two refineries in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan's State Oil Company (SOCAR) is the only producer of oil products in Azerbaijan.

Recently, Azneftyag refinery was eliminated and included in the Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev.
