Turkmenistan and Afghanistan discussed the implementation of important joint projects on development of transportation and communication corridors and energy routes, read a message of the Turkmen government, issued Feb. 25.

The discussion was held at a meeting between Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Afghan Ambassador Mohammad Fazil Saifi.

The significance of the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline was highlighted during the meeting.

The parties also touched upon the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan (TAT) railway, which will serve for economic prosperity of Central Asia.

The construction of the TAPI gas pipeline started in mid-December 2015. Its total length is 1,735 kilometers.
