By Elena Kosolapova – Trend:

Unscheduled repair works at Russia’s Orenburg gas processing plant in July-August forced Kazakhstan’s Karachaganak field to reduce gas production by 64,000 tons.

Karachaganak has lost some $24 million as a result, Kazakh prime minister’s website said.

The Russian plant has been processing the Kazakh gas since 2007 as part of intergovernmental agreements. Annual gas supply from Karachaganak to Orenburg plant amounts to 8 billion cubic meters.

In July 2015, Russia and Kazakhstan extended the contract for purchase of Karachaganak gas until 2038.

One of the ways to prevent such losses is to construct a gas processing plant in Kazakhstan, prime minister’s website said.
