Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR shipped about 110,000 tons of oil to the US in April 2017, a source in Azerbaijan’s oil and gas market told Trend May 19.

The source added that this is the first large cargo of Azerbaijani oil delivered to the US this year.

“In April, a tanker with a cargo of 800,000 barrels of Azeri Light oil (about 110,000 tons) was shipped from Turkey’s Ceyhan port across the Atlantic Ocean to the US,” the source said. “Surely, the shipments will continue, because there is demand for Azerbaijani oil in the US.”

In total, in January-April 2017, SOCAR Marketing and Operations Department exported 5.37 million tons of oil from the Turkish port of Ceyhan compared to 5.74 million tons exported during the four months of 2016. Oil is delivered to the Ceyhan port via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline.
