Special attention is paid in Turkmenistan to research work, 2D and 3D seismic surveys aimed at finding new oil and gas fields, said an article in Nebit-Gaz, an online newspaper of the country’s Oil and Gas Complex.

During the recent oil and gas meeting, Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Maksat Babayev noted the importance of the Oil and Gas Complex in the stable development of the country’s economy.

Activity of the research institute at the Turkmengaz State Concern and the scientific and project institute at the Turkmennebit State Concern was also discussed at the meeting.

It was previously reported that about 200 oil and gas fields were discovered in Turkmenistan. The country’s potential hydrocarbon resources are estimated at 71.2 billion tons of oil equivalent, 53 billion tons of which account for onshore and 18.2 billion tons – for offshore areas.

The world’s second biggest gas field, Galkynysh, is located in the eastern part of Turkmenistan. According to an audit held by the UK’s Gaffney, Cline & Associates, reserves of the Turkmen Galkynysh field, together with reserves of the Yashlar and Garakel fields, exceed 27 trillion cubic meters.

Turkmenistan currently supplies gas to Iran and China. Meanwhile, Turkmenistan has been conducting negotiations since 2011 to deliver Turkmen gas to Europe.
