Turkey reveals plans on seismic survey in Mediterranean Sea

It is planned to start a seismic survey in the Mediterranean Sea in early 2018, a source in Turkey’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources told Trend Oct. 18.

The source noted that at the same time, seismic survey will also be held in the Black Sea.

The seismic surveys in the Mediterranean and Black Seas aim to free Turkey from energy dependency, the source noted.

According to the source, the MTA Oruc Reis vessel will be used for the survey.

The vessel has the ability to explore the seabed at a depth of 1,500 meters with the help of a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV).

Meanwhile, the vessel is expected to be used to study seismic events, choose sites for the construction of underwater cable lines and pipelines.
