Power industry is among the priority spheres of Turkmenistan’s national economy, the Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news agency reported.

“The development of this segment positively affects not only the ensuring energy security of Turkmenistan, but also the expansion and growth of regional cooperation. Today, Turkmenistan has a huge potential for exporting electricity to Iran, Turkey, Tajikistan and other countries,” says the report.

Currently, work is underway to increase the supply of electricity to Afghanistan in two directions – Ymamnazar-Andkhoy and Serhetabat-Herat-Turgundy. According to the reached agreements, steps are being taken to expand electricity exports on preferential terms.

Taking into account the large-scale projects being implemented to increase the capacity of this industry, there are wide opportunities for participation of potential investors and leading foreign companies in them, according to the report.

Turkmenistan produced 20,024,520,000 kilowatt hours of electricity from January to October 2017.
