Azerbaijan is an important supplier of oil to a number of European countries, including Italy, and after the implementation of the project, the Southern Gas Corridor will become a supplier of natural gas, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Italy Mammad Ahmedzade said at the conference "Follow the Energy - The Role of Italy in the Great Energy Game of Europe" in Rome.
The Ambassador spoke about the history of the oil and gas industry of Azerbaijan, the contributions of our country to the world's oil and gas industry, the energy strategy and the role of Azerbaijan in the energy security of Europe.
The "Southern Gas Corridor" project, including the Trans Adriatic gas pipeline, has become the main topic of discussion at the conference.
Speakers at the event emphasized the strategic importance of this project from the point of view of Europe's energy security, the diversification of energy sources and routes, and the emergence of Italy as the center of natural gas in Europe.
The conference was attended by parliamentarians of Italy, heads of companies working in the energy sector, well-known scientists and researchers on energy.
The Southern Gas Corridor, worth $41.5 billion, is considered as one of the priority energy projects for the EU, which strives for diversification of gas sources. The project envisages the transportation of gas from the Caspian region to the European countries through Georgia and Turkey.
At an initial stage, the gas to be produced in the Stage 2 of development of Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field is considered as the main source for the Southern Gas Corridor projects. Other sources can also connect to this project at a later stage.
As part of the Shah Deniz Stage 2, the gas will be exported to Turkey and European markets by expanding the South Caucasus Pipeline and the construction of Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).
