Baku, Azerbaijan, May 16

General Electric (GE) and Uzbekenergo signed an agreement to expand cooperation in energy sphere, Uzbek media reported on May 16.
The agreement was signed within the framework of the official visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyev to the United States on May 15-17.
The parties agreed to consider possibility of building a new Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) unit with a capacity of more than 660 megawatts based on the GE H-class gas turbine at the Tashkent Thermal Power Plant.
The H-class turbines are the most powerful in the GE lineup and one of the most high-performance in the world. The turbine efficiency reached 63.08 percent at the CCGT unit in Nagoya (Japan) in 2018, with the result being recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.
The GE and Uzbekenergo have also agreed to form a working group that will analyze prospects for implementing high-efficiency technologies in steam generation for new coal-fired power units in Uzbekistan. Use of the GE’s technologies will help increasing operational indicators of power units, thanks to more efficient coal combustion, and ensuring compliance with international emission standards.
“We are pleased to see development of cooperation with Uzbekenergo, aimed at increasing productivity and environmental friendliness of the country's energy facilities. Use of advanced GE technologies will contribute to providing the population and industrial enterprises of Uzbekistan with high-quality and reliable energy supply,” CEO of the General Electric for Central Asia & Azerbaijan Bela Ferenczi said.
Chairman of the Board of the Uzbekenergo JSC Ulugbek Mustafayev on his part noted that Uzbekenergo implements a long-term investment program on construction of new and modernization of existing power facilities for sustainable operation of energy enterprises.
“The GE’s equipment has already proved its high reliability and efficiency. We expect that expansion of our partnership will contribute to achievement of sustainable economic growth and stable operation of the power industry in Uzbekistan,” said.
The GE was the main supplier of equipment for the 370-megawatt CCGT unit at the Tashkent TPP. The GE is currently working with Hyundai Engineering to build two 230-280-megawatt CCGT units at the Takhiatash TPP.
