The 6th, 7th and 8th phases of Iran’s giant South Pars Gas Field in the southwestern port city of Asalouyeh, in Bushehr Province, have been linked to the energy hub’s third refinery, IRNA news agency reported.

With the major pipe of the phases connected to the refinery, 3 million cubic meters of sour gas are being transferred to the third refinery per day, said the report.

The connecting gas pipe will have the capacity to transfer 13 million cubic meters of sour gas per day if connected to the refineries of Phases 4 and 5.

According to the report, the 1700-meter gas route has been built to tap the potential of phases 6, 7, and 8 to transfer gas and later sweeten it at refineries at phases 4 and 5.

The South Pars gas field, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar.

It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.
