By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend:

Turkmenawtoban OJSC will build a high-speed highway between the Turkmen cities of Ashgabat and Turkmenabat, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported June 18.

In accordance with the decree of Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, a state loan worth up to $2.4 billion was allocated on preferential terms for the implementation of the highway’s construction project.

The commissioning of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway will make it possible to improve the quality of logistics services, expand the international transit and transport infrastructure and increase trade with neighboring countries.

The high-speed highway will provide transit cargo flows with fast access to Uzbekistan and further to the branched system of continental routes, and the connection with the Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi highway will provide an opportunity for quick and convenient access to the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, the report noted.

The width of the highway with the first class pavement material will be 34.5 meters.

A number of highways of international importance, namely, Turkmenbashi – Ashgabat – Mary -Turkmenabat – Farab – Uzbekistan’s state border; Ashgabat-Dashoguz; Ashgabat-Gaudan; Turkmenbashi - Bekdash and Serdar - Gudriolum, pass through Turkmenistan.

The export of hydrocarbons and finished products is constantly growing from Turkmenistan to the European and Asian countries. For this purpose, there are 13 border crossing points with all neighboring countries for crossing the border from the North to the South, from the West to the East, as well as from the North-East and to the South-West.

Turkmenistan borders Kazakhstan, Iran, Russia, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan onshore, while Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Iran offshore.
