Turkey is resuming oil import from the territory of the Kurdish autonomy in the north of Iraq via the Kirkuk-Yumurtalik pipeline, Turkish media reported Nov. 16.
The report said that 50-100,000 barrels of oil will be daily shipped from Iraq to Turkey via this pipeline.
Earlier, a source in the Turkish government told Trend that Turkey may resume oil import from the territory of the Kurdish autonomy in the north of Iraq via the Kirkuk-Yumurtalik pipeline.
The source said this decision was made after the US sanctions against Iran entered into force.
The source noted that Turkey suspended the purchase of oil through the Kirkuk-Yumurtalik pipeline after September 25, 2017, when the Kurdish autonomy of Iraq held the so-called “referendum on independence”, which was not recognized by the international community.
On November 5, the US sanctions against Iran entered into force. The sanctions cover the sphere of oil exports. Washington has set out to bring the export of Iranian oil to zero, calling on all its buyers to refuse such purchases.
The US President Donald Trump announced in May that Washington was withdrawing from an agreement on nuclear program with Iran. The US president also announced the restoration of all sanctions against Iran, including secondary ones, that is, against other countries doing business with Iran. On August 7, the US re-enacted part of the sanctions against Iran.
