By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

This year, oil production at Kazakhstan's Kashagan field has 7 times exceeded the level of 1 million tons per month, the field operator North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC) told Trend.

The consortium noted that such a volume was achieved thanks to the high level of operational reliability.

The NCOC also said that gas re-injection at the field began in mid-2017, reaching 320 million cubic meters during the year, and this continued in 2018.

"Given the high level of operational reliability, we expect that the figures for 2018 will be higher," said the message.

Kashagan oil field in the northern part of Kazakhstan's sector in the Caspian Sea is one of the largest oil fields discovered in the last 40 years. Its recoverable reserves are estimated at approximately 9-13 billion barrels of oil. In 2017, NCOC produced 8.29 million tons of oil from the field.

NCOC shareholders are KMG Kashagan B.V. (16.9 percent), Shell Kazakhstan Development B.V. (16.8 percent), Total E&P Kazakhstan (16.8 percent), Agip Caspian Sea B.V. (16.8 percent), ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Inc. (16.8 percent), CNPC Kazakhstan B.V. (8.3 percent) и North Caspian Sea Ltd. (7.6 percent).
