Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 17
By Huseyn Hasanov, Rashid Shirinov – Trend:
At a government meeting, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Dadebay Amangeldiyev reported on the ongoing work on the construction of a power line on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route, Trend reports citing the Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary state news agency.
Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in turn, noted that the laying of the next stage of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, as well as power transmission and fiber-optic communication lines between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan, will be a new important chapter in the history of Turkmenistan.
The Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper noted that the implementation of the above-mentioned projects will not only open up broad prospects for the development of the economies of the participating countries, but will also contribute to strengthening and intensifying international cooperation and accessing its new relevant areas.
In February 2018, the governments of Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan signed an agreement on the construction of a power line along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route. Turkish Calyk Holding company expressed its interest to take part in the construction of this 500-kilovolt power line.
Turkmenistan is a traditional supplier of electricity to neighboring Afghanistan. In order to increase supplies, additional stations and high-voltage power lines were built in Turkmenistan. The country also exports electricity to Iran.
Turkmen Energy Ministry has earlier stated that there are great opportunities for the supply of Turkmen electricity to Tajikistan, Pakistan and India through Afghanistan. Turkmenistan plans to produce up to 27.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity by 2020 and up to 35.5 billion kilowatt-hours by 2030.
