By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:

The Turkmen Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting with General Secretary of the Energy Charter Secretariat Urban Rusnak, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry Jan. 23.

The sides discussed a number of issues related to the development of bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Energy Charter.

Over the past years, Turkmenistan has been conducting targeted foreign policy, focusing the attention of the world community on issues of energy security, the message said.

The parties reviewed the issue of holding the 15th meeting of the Task Force on Regional Energy Cooperation in Central and South Asia (RECCA), scheduled to be held in 2019.

In the CIS area, the main suppliers of natural gas to world markets are Russia and Turkmenistan, and the two countries have been cooperating in the fuel and energy sector for many years.

Russia was receiving Turkmen gas for its re-export through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan via the Central Asia-Center (CAC) gas pipeline.

The CAC gas pipeline system may potentially be used to deliver natural gas from Turkmenistan to the countries of Eastern Europe and the CIS, the Turkmenistan State News Agency reported earlier.

"In case of application of fundamental principles of the Energy Charter Treaty and reaching certain agreements with the transit countries, the CAC gas pipeline may potentially be used to deliver natural gas from Turkmenistan to the countries of Eastern Europe and the CIS," the report said.
