Zenith Energy preparing for workover at Azerbaijan’s Muradkhanli field

Zenith Energy company of Canada is preparing for workover at Azerbaijan’s Muradkhanli oil field, Trend reports citing the company.

Zenith Energy is the operator of Muradkhanli-Jafarli-Zardab block of oil fields in Azerbaijan.

The company said its A-80 workover rig is being mobilised to the Muradkhanli Field in order to perform workover activities.

As for Jafarli field, Zenith Energy said civil works are in progress in the field.

“Construction of a drilling rig platform on the C-37 well location is expected to begin immediately after the conclusion of the first phase of civil works on the road leading to the well location. The company is pleased to confirm that preparation activities for well deepening operations in well C-30 of the Jafarli Field have been completed successfully,” said Zenith Energy.

As announced on February 8, 2019, Zenith's operational team had mobilised the Company's A-80 truck-mounted workover rig to well C-30 in order to perform cleanout operations and determine the integrity of the wellbore for well deepening operations.

“These operations have been completed without incident, and well C-30 has been determined to be technically suitable for well deepening operations,” said Zenith Energy.

In the event of successful well deepening results in well C-37, the company intends to mobilise a drilling rig to well C-30 to perform well deepening activities, said the company.

Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Zenith Aran Oil Company signed a Rehabilitation, Exploration, Development and Production Sharing Agreement (REDPSA) in March 2016 for a block that includes the Muradkhanli, Jafarli and Zardab oil fields. Zenith Energy Ltd established its subsidiary company Zenith Aran Oil Company Ltd for production operations in these three fields. Production under the agreement began in August 2016.

Zenith holds an 80-percent participating interest in the three fields within the contract area, while SOCAR retains the remaining 20 percent. The agreement is for 25 years, with a potential extension by five additional years.

The total area of the Muradkhanli, Jafarli and Zardab fields is 642.2 square kilometers, and according to the contract, it is divided into rehabilitation and exploration territories.

The Muradkhanli-Jafarli-Zardab block is located in the Yevlakh-Agjabadi oil and gas region of Imishli district of Azerbaijan. The Muradkhanli field was discovered in 1971, Jafarli - in 1984, and Zardab - in 1981.
