Azerbaijan significantly increases gas exports to Turkey

Azerbaijan supplied 808.36 million cubic meters of gas to Turkey in January 2019 compared to 594.15 million cubic meters (an increase of 36.05 percent) in the same period last year, Trend informs with reference to a report posted on the website of Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority ( EPDK).

Azerbaijan supplied more than 6.54 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey in 2017, compared to 6.48 billion cubic meters in 2016.

The report shows that in January, Turkey imported 5.810 billion cubic meters of gas, of which 3.469 billion cubic meters were imported through pipelines, and 2.340 billion cubic meters accounted for imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The share of Azerbaijan in the total import of gas by Turkey in January 2019 amounted to 13.91 percent.

Turkey imports gas from Azerbaijan via the South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum). This country has a contract for the annual purchase of 6.6 billion cubic meters of gas from the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz gas and condensate field.
