Uzbekistan plans to build three new coal-fired power plants, Trend reports citing Podrobno.uz.

The head of Uzbek company "Thermal Power Plants" Ruslan Mubarakshin said that the promising program for the development of the energy industry includes the construction of three new coal-fired power plants. All of them will be located near the Angren Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in Tashkent region.

Moreover, he noted that a number of new units are planned to be built at the Angren TPP in the near future.

"The first unit there was built by a Chinese company Harbin Power Engineering Company with a capacity of 150 MW. Its efficiency is about two times greater than that of the old one. The amount of burning coal is one million tons per year. This year we are finishing the development of a project feasibility study and working with a potential investor for the construction of the second power unit of 150 MW," he said.

He stated that in two years, it is planned to build the third power unit with capacity of 150 MW and then another one with capacity of up to 300 MW. This entire program focuses on substitution of natural gas by switching to coal.
