Iran's alternative energy production capacity reaches 760 megawatts

The production capacity of renewable energy plants installed in Iran has reached 760 megawatts by the end of the 4th month (July 22) of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), as stated by the Iranian Ministry of Energy, Trend reports referring to the ministry's website.

According to the ministry, alternative renewable power plants in Iran have produced about 3.41 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to date.

As a result, release of about 2.36 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions was prevented.

It was also stated that the production of the aforementioned volumes of electricity decreased the consumption of fossil fuels by 955 million cubic meters. At the same time, 751 million liters of water have been saved.

The operation of alternative renewable energy stations has opened the way for the provision of 42,300 people with jobs. The private sector has invested 124 trillion rials (app. $2.95 billion) in the construction of these stations.

So far, 115 renewable energy power stations have been built in Iran, and 32 more are under construction.

Solar energy makes up 45 percent of the alternative renewable energy resources used in Iran, followed by wind energy at 40 percent, small hydropower at 12 percent, thermal energy at 2 percent, and biomass at 1 percent.
