Reviving small mines will create about 3,000 jobs in current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), said the managing director of Iran Minerals Production and Supply Co.

"We seek to attract 600 investment packages and activate 150 mines that will create 3,000 jobs," said Jafari, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"In addition, 350 mines will be activated with assistance from private sector. To this end, a number of agreements are to be concluded by Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Company, Gol Gohar Mining Company and MIDHCO on investments in the industry," he added.

"According to the statistics, there are 5,647 active mines in Iran, and most of them are located in Isfahan province. Currently, there are 4,494 inactive mines in the country, majority of which are located in Khorasan Razavi Province," he said.

In his words, small mines comprise about 98 percent of Iran's mines, which employ 85 percent of the workers of the industry and supply 65 percent of the whole volume of the mining production.

"We have several ways to realize the plan, and the priority is to support the mines that require revival and have high employment capacity, but do not need specific technologies and huge investments," Jafari said.

"The measures to ensure success of the project include guaranteed purchase of minerals, financial support and exploration. This will help to support the Ministry of Industries, Mine and Trade, Iran Minerals Production and Supply Co and Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development & Renovation to revive the small mines and develop the industry," he added.
