The work on reactivation and modernization of semi-submersible drilling rig “Dede Gorgud” is planned to be completed by late October 2019, a source in Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company SOCAR told Trend.

According to the source, a large part of the crew of the Dede-Gorgud drilling rig has already been formed.

The installation was temporarily suspended after the completion of the drilling contract at the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli fields. A division of SOCAR's Caspian Drilling Company (CDC) is currently in the process of returning the rig to operational state and modernizing it.

The Dede Gorgud rig will take part in drilling operations as part of the projects conducted by SOCAR jointly with the Norwegian Equinor. Using the rig, an appraisal well will be drilled at the Karabakh field, and then an exploration well at the Aypara area.

Equinor also attracted CDC as a drilling contractor at the Karabakh field. Under the terms of the agreement, the CDC will drill two wells at this field using the drilling rig Dede Gorgud after its modernization.
