By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Azerbaijan is the second biggest crude oil supplier to the Czech Republic, Milan Ekert,
Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Azerbaijan said in an interview with Trend.

“People say that there is always a room for improvement, but the cooperation between our two countries in the sphere of energy is on extraordinary high level already. The Czech Republic and Azerbaijan are strategic partners with active cooperation in the field of energy dating back to 2001 when the first significant deliveries of the high-quality, low-sulphur oil Azerbaijani crude oil to the Czech Republic started to take place. Since then, Azerbaijan has become the 2nd biggest supplier of crude oil to the Czech Republic (after Russia),” he said.

Ekert noted that without exaggeration, it can be said that every third car in the Czech Republic is running on the petrol made from Azerbaijani oil.

“There is even an oil refinery in the town of Kralupy nad Vltavou, which is almost exclusively dedicated to processing Azeri Light,” he added.

On the other hand, Ekert said that the Czech Republic pays from $1 to $1.5 billion each year for crude oil deliveries, which is comparable to 1/10 of Azerbaijani state budget.
