Electricity production growing in Azerbaijan

Power plants in Azerbaijan generated 16.4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in January-August 2019, which is 5.7 percent more than during the same period last year, Trend reports referring to a report by Azerbaijan’s State Statistical Committee.

The report says that 15.8 billion kilowatt hours of the total electricity generated during the indicated period accounted for commercial electricity, which is 6 percent more than in January-August 2018.

Of the total commercial electricity generated during the reporting period, thermal power plants (TPPs) accounted for 14.5 billion kilowatt-hours, which is 7.2 percent more than the same period last year.

Azerbaijan’s hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) generated 1.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity over the indicated period (decline of 10.3 percent).

Some 78.2 million kilowatt-hours of electricity were generated in Azerbaijan during the reporting period via wind power (growth by 3.2 times over the year), and 29.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity via solar power (increase of 8 percent).
