By Kamala Mammadli - Trend:

By 2022, the volume of associated gas emissions will decrease by 64.9 percent from the base forecast for the same year, Trend reports referring to the report of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR.

In 2018, associated gases from Salyan Oil Limited production oil wells were connected to a closed system. Previously, about 90,000-100,000 cubic meters of associated gas were released daily into the atmosphere.

With the completion of all the necessary work, associated gas emissions are currently fully regulated. As such, the gas export center has installed four US-made MKO-HOERBIGER-350 modern gas compressor units, and supplies 65,000-70,000 cubic meters of associated gas from the Kursangi oilfield of Salyan Oil Limited for the needs of the Janub power plant in the city of Shirvan.

In order to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions, SOCAR approved a document titled "2017-2022: reduction of associated gas emissions in projects involving SOCAR." The main objective of this plan is to gradually reduce associated gas emissions.

After the document was approved, an inventory of all open wells was conducted in operating companies, joint ventures and Azneft, and the enterprises were able to determine their priorities.
