Iran's petrochemical industry consumes fuel equivalent to 650,000 barrels of oil daily

Iran's petrochemical industry consumes fuel equivalent to 650,000 barrels of oil, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister and Executive Director of the Iran National Petrochemical Company Behzad Mohammadi said, Trend reports on Oct. 10 referring to Shana.

“The Iranian petrochemical industry consumes 33 million tons of fuel daily,” the deputy minister said. “About 70 percent of the fuel is obtained from gas refineries, 20 percent – as a result of NGL projects, and 10 percent - from refineries.”

“Presently, 56 facilities are operating in the petrochemical industry,” Mohammadi added.

In his words, the number of facilities will reach 83, and 62 million tons of fuel will be purchased until March 21, 2022, and these figures will reach 109 facilities and 74 million tons respectively till March 21, 2026.

The deputy minister said that 77 percent of the fuel will account for gas and 23 percent - for liquid fuel in 2022, while 86 percent will account for gas and 14 percent - for liquid fuel in 2026.

“The Iranian petrochemical industry annually consumes 300 million cubic meters of water, of which 150 million is ensured through the Persian Gulf and 100 million through the Karun River, which flows into this Gulf,” the deputy minister said. “The remaining 50 million is ensured through local water reserves.”

Mohammadi stressed that as a whole, the power plants of the Iranian petrochemical enterprises annually produce 1,900 megawatts of electricity, of which 1,640 megawatts of electricity are consumed by industrial facilities, while the rest part is transferred to the Iranian grid.
