The US Epsilon Development Company LLC, the China Petroleum Technology and Development Company (CPTDC) and Uzbekistan’s State Committee for Geology and Mineral Resources are working on a project to develop oil shale in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing Epsilon’s press service.

A working meeting was held in the building of the State Committee for Geology on Oct. 11, within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed on May 21, 2019.

Chairman of the State Committee for Geology Bobir Islamov, as well as representatives of Epsilon and CPTDC, discussed the implementation of the project for the construction of a complex for processing oil shale from the Sangruntau field in the Navoi region of Uzbekistan.

The meeting participants agreed to develop a detailed roadmap for the project and the tripartite working group on its implementation.

Implementation of a unique project for the extraction and deep processing of oil shale in Uzbekistan will allow annually producing up to 1 million tons of oil products, including gasoline, jet fuel, diesel fuel and base oils.

This project makes possible the creation of a production of rare-earth metals and cement from oil shale ash in the future.
