Electricity prices rise in Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 14

Electricity prices rose in November 2019 in Georgia, Trend reports citing the Georgian Electricity System Commercial Operator of Georgia (ESCO).

During this period, the weighted average cost of electricity in Georgia increased from 13.81 to 15.45 tetri compared to the previous year.

The price of electricity at unregulated power plants decreased from 11 to 10 tetri.

The cost of balancing electricity amounted to 44.6 million lari ($15.6 million).

In November 2019, the balancing electricity purchased by ESCO amounted to 288 million kWh, which is 27 percent of the total energy supply in this month.

Most balancing energy consists of imported electricity.

The share of hydroelectric power plants in the total volume of balancing electricity amounted to 28 percent and wind power plants accounted for 2.7 percent.

In November 2019, distribution companies and direct consumers purchased balancing electricity from ESCO. Their share in the purchase of balancing electricity is 42.92 percent and 50.50 percent, respectively.
