Iran eyes to overhaul 20 tankers in a year

In the current Iranian year (began on March 21, 2019), 20 oil tankers either have been overhauled or will be overhauled, Executive Director of National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) Nasrollah Sardashti said, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

Nasrollah Sardashti noted that in the current Iranian year, so far, 10 tankers have been overhauled in Bandar Abbas county of Iran's Hormozgan province.

The director added that two more oil tankers have been delivered for the repair to the Iran Shipbuilding & Offshore Industries Complex (ISOICO) in Bandar Abbas county.

According to the program, up to eight oil tankers will be overhauled within upcoming five months, Sardashti said.

The director said that currently, there are no plans to buy new oil tankers.

He stressed that in the current year, no tanker was sent abroad for overhaul.

The US imposed sanctions on Iran in November 2018 and expanded them in several stages. Iran is taking steps to boost domestic production under the sanctions.
