Electricity tariffs for Enguri, Vardnili hydropower plants in Georgia reduced

National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission of Georgia has reduced electricity tariffs for companies at the Enguri Hydro Power Plant and the Vardnili Hydro Power plant, Trend reports citing the commission's statement.

According to the commission’s decision, the new electricity generation rate for the Enguri Hydro Power Plant is 0.3 cents per kilowatt hour. The tariff as of December 31, 2019 was 0.7 cents per kilowatt hour.

The new tariff for the production of electricity from the Vardnili Hydro Power Cascade is 0.8 cents per kilowatt hour. As of December 31, 2019, the tariff was 1.4 cents per kilowatt hour.

New rates will be valid from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.

The commission noted that the decrease is due to the principles of the current tariff methodology.

Moreover, the commission lowered the tariff for Georgian State Electric System JSC. The new rate is set at 0.3 cents per kilowatt hour. The tariff as of December 31, 2019 was 0.4 cents per kilowatt hour.

The largest power plant in Georgia, Enguri Hydro Power Plant, produces half of the electricity in Georgia.
