Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Energy is working on the usage of renewable energy sources, Trend reports referring to the ministry.

In particular, studies are underway at Turkmenistan’s State Institute of Energy on the usage of solar and wind energy in the area of the Altyn Asyr artificial lake being built in Karakum, and a relevant action plan is being prepared.

Within the framework of the energy conservation program developed in Turkmenistan for the period until 2024, emphasis will be placed on the construction of solar power plants.

Turkmenistan is rich in solar energy and desert sand, which has silicon in its composition. The country aims at exporting of silicon, which is the basic chemical element for creating equipment that allows producing environmentally friendly electricity, to the world markets.

Local scientists talk about the possibilities of using solar energy in the automobile transport enterprises, the economic efficiency of using renewable energy sources, the development of automation systems for alternative energy sources, and the possibilities of generating thermal energy from used deep wells.

In July, the length of a sunny day reaches 16 hours in Turkmenistan. The energy of the Sun rays falling on one square meter is 800 watts. Approximately 300 days a year are sunny, and the duration of sunny days reaches 2,500-3,000 hours.
