BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 11

By Nargiz Ismayilova – Trend:

The drilling operations at the Karabakh field are planned to be completed by late February - early March 2020, Deputy Head of the Public Relations and Events Department at the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic SOCAR Ibrahim Ahmadov told Trend.

"Together with Equinor partner company, we launched drilling of an appraisal well at the Karabakh field in late 2019," Ahmadov said. “The drilling operations are carried out by SOCAR's subsidiary - Caspian Drilling Company (CDC) through the Dede Gorgud drilling rig.”

"Later, the Dede Gorgud drilling rig is planned to be transported to drill an exploratory well at the Aypara structure,” the deputy head of the department said. “Seismic exploration was carried out at this structure in late 2019. The drilling operations will last there approximately two months."

"Besides these projects, Equinor is our long-standing partner in the consortium for the development of the biggest Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli oil fields in Azerbaijan," Ahmadov added.

The Dede Gorgud semi-submersible drilling rig was transported to the Karabakh field to drill an appraisal well. The purpose of the drilling operations is to reveal the potential of the field, as well as oil and gas reserves.
