Iran Energy Exchange (IRENEX) continues to offer and trade oil products despite the closure of borders that was caused by the spread of COVID-19 disease, head of IRENEX Ali Hosseini told Trend.
"IRENEX has traded 6 million tons of oil products in the current Iranian year (started March 21,2019)," he said.
"Hopefully the market would expand in the next Iranian year (starts March 21,2020)," he added.
"All major products including liquid gas, kerosene and gasoline are being offered weekly at the exchange," he added.
"The energy exchange has offered 400,000 tons of gasoline last week," he said.
"There have been limitations in transportation of oil products due to coronavirus spread but the limitations were not serious," he said.
Iran is one of the recent countries, affected by the rapidly-spreading coronavirus. According to recent reports from the Iranian officials, over 8,000 people have been infected, 291 people have already died. Meanwhile, over 2,700 have reportedly recovered from the disease.
The country continues to apply strict measures to contain the further spread. Reportedly, the disease was brought to Iran by a businessman from Iran's Qom city, who went on a business trip to China, despite official warnings. The man died later from the disease.
Following the reports of coronavirus spread in the Islamic Republic, several countries have taken measures, including closing borders and banning flights.
The Islamic Republic only announced its first infections and deaths from the coronavirus on Feb. 19.
