Khomein petrochemical plant to be commissioned in Iran

Khomein petrochemical plant in Iran's Markazi Province will be commissioned in the near future, said Head of Markazi Province Industry Mine and Trade Organization Javad Hasani, Trend reports citing the organization's official website.

According to Hasani, with the launch of this plant, a total of 1,320 people will be employed.

Hasani added that the construction of the plant began in 2017. Equipment purchased from Norway has been installed, and more than 80 percent of the equipment has been already bought.

The official said that the full production capacity of the Khomein petrochemical plant is 300,000 tons of polypropylene per year. At the initial stage, the plant will produce 180,000 tons of polypropylene annually.

At present, Iran produces 66 million tons of petrochemical products a year. It is planned to increase the production to 100 million tons by 2022 and the income from $17 billion to $25 billion.

By 2026, Iran's petrochemical sector is expected to increase annual production to 133 million tons and the revenues to $37 billion, the report said.
